Who we are
Mathilde López Artistic Director
Mathilde trained at Central Saint Martins in Performance Design, has a Masters in Theatre Directing from Birkbeck College and was a founding member of National Theatre Wales.
She started her professional career as a designer working for the BBC and Robert Lepage. A former assistant director and literary manager at Theatre Royal Stratford East, she is now a freelance director and the founder of August 012.
Her work is recognisable for its take on space, its irreverence for conventions, its relentless research into aesthetics and its investigation into audience involvement. A lover of text, she is equally at home devising new work or ravaging classics.
She teaches at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and is the recipient of a Creative Wales Award for developing new approaches to Opera.
She is currently developing a site-specific jazz version of The Coronation of Poppea for Welsh National Opera at Llanishen Tax Office, and a binaural headphone version of Robinson Crusoe for Give It A Name with Bristol Old Vic.
Glesni Price-Jones – Associate Producer
Glesni started her career as a stage manager and one of her first jobs was with Mathilde, managing a street game. She worked as a stage and production manager for many Welsh companies including all of August 012’s early productions before becoming a freelance producer in 2017. She is now producing for a number of leading companies in Wales. She keeps chickens.
